LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Coe College wrestling team bounced back from yesterday's preliminary round loss to earn a pair of dual victories on Saturday, taking down Olivet 45-9 and Dubuque 36-6. The Kohawks, who finished 17th in the team stsandings, dominated their opening match of the day, earning bonus points in all bout-victories, including securing six pins against the Comets.
Jaiden Moore, Alex Friddle, Bryce Parke and
Riley Wright put together a perfect start for Coe, earning four victories to open the match. Moore, Parke and Wight all picked up wins via fall while Friddle earned a 16-1 tech fall. The Comets answered with a victory at 157 to slow the momentum but
Will Esmoil then delivered an upset win for the Kohawks, knocking off #10 Kameron Bush with a pin just moments into the second period.
Ryker Kurimski, Tristin Westphal and
Jared Voss continued the dominance for the Kohawks, posting three-straight pins to put the match out of reach for Olivet.
The Kohawks quickly fell behind in the championship match of the 17th-place bracket, dropping a pair of bouts at 125 and 133 to the Spartans. Parke responded for the Kohawks at 141, earning bonus points with a 12-3 major decision. Parke's win started a run of eight-straight wins for Coe, closing the dual on a dominant stretch. Wright made it two pins in two tries at 149, claiming victory less than a minute into the third period.
Dylan Falck and Esmoil then went back-to-back with decisions, earning 2-1 and 9-3 wins respectively. Coe excelled in the final four matches of the day, picking up bonus-point victories from Westphal, Kurumski and
Kaleb Reeves while
Mathieu Arsenault locked up a 7-2 decision.
