Parson & Meyer dominate to lead Volleyball past (RV) Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wisc. - The Coe College volleyball team picked up a gutsy road victory on Tuesday evening, defeating (RV) UW-Platteville 3-2. Coe and Platteville opened with a battle in set one but the hosts edged Coe 31-29. The visitors bounced back in the next two sets, picking up a 25-21 win before an emphatic 25-15 decision in the third. The Pioneers forced a fifth set with a strong showing in the fourth but the Kohawks dominated the final period and secured the match with a 15-10 win in the final period. The Kohawks were led by a dominant attacking duo in Madi Parson and Kelsey Hansel with the pair combining for 38 kills and just seven errors. Parson posted a team-high 21 kills and 14 digs, posting a .364 attack percentage. Meyer was just behind Parson with 17 kills, committing only two errors while hitting .429.

GAME FACTS
  •  Platteville and Coe went neck-and-neck in the opener, with each team ripping off late runs in regulation to force extra points. UW-Platteville snuck over the line late in the period, scoring back-to-back points with the match tied at 29. The Pioneers erased a large deficit early in the second set, grabbing a 12-11 lead after trailing by four early on. Coe stormed back late in the set, scoring the final four points of the period to tie the match at one. The Kohawks took care of business in the third, grabbing a lead early on and maintaining it throughout the period before ending with a dominant 8-1 stretch. The Pioneers answered in the fourth set and hit .480 in the period, dominating the set for a 25-17 decision. Coe showed no nerves despite the strong performance from the hosts in the fourth, hitting .308 in the final period with nine kills and just one error. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks are back in action this weekend with another non-conference match, traveling to Fontbonne on Saturday, October 21 with the game set to start at 3 PM.
