MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Coe College women's basketball team picked up its second-straight win to start the 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Monmouth College 76-54 at Glennie Gymnasium. Coe outscored its opponent in every quarter for the second game running, betting the hosts by as many as 11 in the final quarter. As a team, Coe shot 49 percent from the floor and The Kohawks were led by sophomore sensation
Caydee Kirkham who scored a game-high 28 points while adding six assists. Defensively, Coe forced 26 turnovers and turned the miscues into 21 points.

GAME FACTS
- Coe and Monmouth each started slow, combining for just four points in the opening three-plus minutes of the period. The visitors closed the quarter well, outscoring the opposition 14-9 in the final six minutes to take a 16-11 lead into the second. Monmouth closed the gap early in the second quarter with a quick 6-2 burst but again Coe answered, ripping off a quarter-ending 12-6 run to grab a seven-point lead at 30-23. Kirkham spearheaded the run for Coe, scoring eight points with four layups in the lane. She continued her stellar afternoon in the third quarter, scoring four of Coe's first eight points in the period to extend the lead to double-digits with less than eight minutes left in the frame. Monmouth kept things within range in the final minutes of the quarter, keeping level with Coe as the teams scored 12 each. The Kohawks put the game to rest in the first two minutes of the fourth, getting an 8-0 run to start. Kalyan Petersen scored four of her 18 points in during the stretch, converting a pair of layups to put her team out of reach.
Up next: Coe returns to the court on Wednesday, November 15 for its first home game of the year, hosting Knox College at 6 PM at Kohawk Arena.
