CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday evening at Kohawk Arena, dropping its A-R-C opener 51-36 to #24 Loras College. Coe kept it close in the opening half, battling back-and-forth with the visitors in the first 20 minutes. The Duhawks slightly edged the Kohawks in the first two quarters, holding a 24-22 lead at the break. The visitors picked up the intensity in the third quarter, holding Coe to just six points and 20 percent shooting in the period. Loras put the game away in the final quarter with another strong showing, outscoring Coe 15-8 to ensure the league-opening win.

- Coe got off to a strong start, scoring the game's first five points. Loras stormed back quickly, answering with six points to pull ahead. The Duhawks continued to surge over the closing minutes of the period, getting an 8-4 run to extend their lead to five after one. Coe dominated a majority of the second quarter, beginning with a 13-4 run in the opening seven minutes to gain a 22-18 lead. Loras responded in the final two minutes of the half to regain a lead, scoring six points to grab a 24-22 advantage heading into the half. The Duhawks picked up in the third quarter where they left off in the second, using an early 10-2 spurt to quickly extend the lead to 34-24. Coe stayed within touching distance over the final minutes of the period, getting a small 4-2 run to keep it a single-digit deficit. Loras and Coe went back-and-forth early in the fourth quarter but the visitors closed the door midway through, scoring seven unanswered points to extend the lead to 15.
