Volleyball extends streak to seven with wins over Benedictine & Marian

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe College volleyball team moved its win streak to seven matches on Friday evening, picking up a pair of non-conference victories against Benedictine and Marian. The Kohawks completed a reverse sweep in the opening match of the evening, erasing a 2-0 deficit to Benedictine. Coe completed the two-match sweep on Friday evening with a dominant 3-1 victory over Marian, taking care of the Sabres for its seventh-straight win. Grace Lueken posted double-digit kills in both matches to lead the offense, hitting over .350 throughout the victories.

GAME FACTS
  • The Kohawks fell behind quickly 2-0 in the match, seeing the Eagles squeak out a pair of two-point victories in the first and second sets. Coe refused to give in despite the hefty deficit, answering with a strong 25-21 display in the third. The Kohawks then forced a decisive fifth set with an impressive 25-17 victory in the fourth, taking advantage of eight Benedictine errors to knot the match at two. Coe completed the reverse sweep and picked up its sixth straight victory, ending the match with a 15-11 decision in the fifth. Madi Parson, Grace Lueken and Gracie Urbatsch all recorded double-digit kills for the Kohawks while Lueken's .344 attack percentage was a team high. 
COE 3 - MARIAN 1
GAME FACTS
  • Coe narrowly edged Marian in the opening set, pulling out a 25-23 victory with three of the final four points. The second set proved a bit easier on the Kohawks who hit .406 in the period, winning 25-19 to jump ahead 2-0. Marian crept back into the match with a victory in the third, capitalizing on a tough attacking performance for the Kohawks who had just nine kills overall. Coe responded well in the following set, committing just three errors en route to a 25-22 victory, securing the evening sweep. Lueken again led the team with 15 kills, hitting .412 with just one error in 34 attempts. 
Up next: Coe ends its regular season tomorrow with one final non-conference match, taking on Augustana at 11 AM.
