DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College football team needed overtime but survived its final American Rivers Conference road contest on Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Dubuque 23-20 in one period of overtime. Coe took the game's first lead in the opening quarter, cashing in with a 36-yard touchdown pass to
Zamari Bruce less than five minutes in. The Kohawks and the Spartans traded field goals before the end of the first half with the visitors leading 10-3 at the break. UD opened the second half with 14 consecutive points, hitting two long passes late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to grab their first lead of the contest. Coe answered back just before the end of regulation, putting together a 13-play, 45-yard drive that ended with a
Trenton Barnes touchdown. The Spartans took possession first in overtime, momentarily grabbing a lead on a 41-yard field goal but Coe punched it in for six and the win on their possession, scoring on a wild sequence down near the goal line which resulted in
Carter Maske recovering a fumble inside the end zone.

GAME FACTS
- Coe's offense had 306 total yards, going for 118 on the ground and 188 through the air. Maske completed 16 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown, connecting for a long of 36 on his TD pass to Bruce. Amel Saric had a team-high I 60 yards in the win, catching seven passes including a long of 24 yards. Dominic Shepardson inched closer to the school's all-time receiving yard mark, hauling in seven passes for 59 yards. Bruce was efficient on the afternoon, catching three passes for 57 yards and his eighth touchdown of the season.
- Ray Seidel was the leading rusher for Coe, gaining 59 yards on 21 carries. Barnes also rushed for over 40, posting 44 yards on 11 carries while finding pay dirt for the sixth time on the ground this season.
- The Coe defense was led by Ben Adelsberger who turned in 10 total tackles with six solo stops. The senior linebacker was followed closely by Bridger Aucutt who had seven tackles including five solos and a forced fumble. Mitchell Eckardt, Jack Shaw and Ben Ridenour all finished with five tackles each while Shaw recorded his fourth interception of the season. In total, eight Kohawks recorded tackles for loss, with Brant Tedrow, Darrius Saunders, Chase Kruse and Jay Oostendorp registering sacks.
Up next: Coe concludes the regular season next weekend at home, taking on Loras College at Clark Field on Saturday, November 11. The Kohawk football team will honor the 2023 senior class prior to the contest.
