CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team earned a comprehensive 79-41 victory at Kohawk Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Kohawks, who honored their 2023 senior class following the victory, dominated from the opening whistle and outscored the visitors in all four frames. Coe jumped ahead in the opening period, building a 15-10 lead thanks to seven first-half field goals. The hosts continued to pad the advantage in the second quarter, outscoring NWU 17-11 to extend the halftime advantage to 11 points. The Kohawks put the game out of reach in the third quarter with an impressive effort, ripping apart the Prairie Wolves defense for a 24-6 advantage. Coe shot a torrid 66 percent from the floor in the quarter including 4-of-7 from downtown as the hosts eliminated any comeback chance for NWU. The Kohawk offense was led by double-double machine
Kaalyn Petersen, who recorded her ninth of the season with 24 points and 10 boards. The junior forward was 9-of-13 from the floor for Coe, adding two steals in a team-high 27 minutes.
Molly Buck and
Caydee Kirkham supported Petersen's efforts, adding 11 points each while Kirkham led the team with seven dimes.
Katie Wilhelmi made a big impact on the defensive end for Coe, recording four steals and four blocks in 23 minutes of action. With the win, Coe ends the regular season with a record of 18-7 overall and 10-6 in the A-R-C while NWU ends the year at 6-18 and 2-14 in the league.

- NWU got the game started just over 40 seconds in, hitting a 3 to jump ahead early. The Kohawks answered over their next two possession, getting back-to-back buckets from Petersen and Makayla Walleser. The Prairie Wolves stayed cool and kept within touching distance of the hosts on the next two chances, getting two-straight buckets to regain a 7-4 lead. The Kohawks owned the final 4:42 of the quarter, ending the frame on an 11-3 spurt to grab a five-point lead. During the run, Coe shot 5-of-9 from the floor and got six points from Petersen who ended the period with eight.
- Coe stayed hot in the opening moments of the second period, ripping off an early 7-2 spurt to expand the lead to 10. NWU slowed the run momentarily over the next minute of play, outscoring Coe 5-2 to pull within seven. The Kohawks again had a strong close to the quarter, ripping off an 8-4 run before the expiration of the clock.
- The hosts saved their most dominant quarter for the third period, putting together a near-perfect effort to put the game away. NWU opened the quarter with a jumper but Coe responded with seven unanswered points to stretch the lead to 39-23. The Prairie Wolves attempted to slow the run with a bucket a few minutes later although Coe had another answer. Coach Waskow's team exploded over the final five minutes of the quarter, using a 17-2 quarter-ending run to put the game away for good.
Up next: Coe, which earned the fourth seed in next week's A-R-C tournament, will host fifth-seeded Luther College on Tuesday, February 21 at Kohawk Arena at 7 PM.
