NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Coe College men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday in the squad's first road tests of the 2023 spring season. The Kohawks suffered a 9-0 defeat to regionally-ranked North Central in their first match of the day before earning a 6-3 victory over MSOE in the second contest. Coe hung tough for the majority of the contest against the Cardinals, battling with the hosts in both doubles and singles competitions. Despite the scoreline, the Kohawks played close matches throughout and forced their opponents to claw out victories. Coe responded in the second match of the day, taking down MSOE behind a dominant doubles effort. The Kohawks swept the initial competition, claiming 8-6, 8-5 and 8-5 victories to go ahead 3-0.
Graham Peterson and
Ivan Burt-Smith earned their third win of the season at number one, picking up an 8-6 victory while
Jordan Oaks and
Alex Palomar and
Grant Idoux and
Isaac Hinze secured 8-5 wins at number two and three. Burt-Smith and Idoux continued their winning ways in singles competition, earning their second victories of the match at number two and number four.
Conner Kryscio put the icing on the cake for the Kohawks at number six singles, picking up a 6-3, 7-5 victory. With the results, Coe moves to 4-1 on the season while North Central and MSOE progress to 6-1 and 3-7 respectively.
