STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team picked up a 71-61 road victory on Saturday afternoon at Buena Vista. The Kohawk women were led by
Kaalyn Petersen, who posted her seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 boards. Coe and Buena Vista battled back and forth in the early going, combining for 33 points in the opening quarter with the visitors holding an 18-15 lead after one. The Kohawks then dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Beavers 22-13 during the period to extend their lead at half to 40-28. BVU threatened the lead early in the third but Coe refused to falter, ending the period with a 25-9 run over the final seven minutes and change to put the contest out of reach. The Beavers made a late comeback attempt in the final moments of the fourth quarter, scoring the final 16 points of the game but the gap was too large to overcome.
Alyse Southard was a major contributor on the offensive end for Coe scoring a season-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting including 2-of-5 from downtown.
Molly Buck was the final Kohawk to reach double figures, scoring 12 points while adding four rebounds, two assists and one steal. The win moves Coe to 16-6 overall and 8-5 in the A-R-C while Buena Vista drops to 6-15 and 1-12 in the league.

- Buena Vista started quickly, hitting a 3 on the first possession of the game. The Kohawks immediately answered, scoring the next seven points including a run-capping 3 from Katie Wilhelmi. The hosts fought back during the next two minutes, outscoring Coe 9-5 to tie the game at 12 midway through the quarter. Coe put together a small stretch before the close of the period, getting a 6-3 scoring run to lead 18-15 after one.
- The Kohawks dominated the opening three-plus minutes of the second period, opening the frame with a 13-4 spurt. Petersen and Buck scored four each during the run while Ellie Wisner and Maya Lindgren chipped in with three and two points respectively. The two teams settled into the quarter, scoring nine points each over the final five minutes. Coe, which hit eight field goals during the quarter and shot 66 percent, took a a 40-28 lead into the halftime break.
- BVU quickly cut into the lead in the first few minutes of the third, outscoring Coe 6-2 in the first 1:41 to pull within eight. The Kohawks finally came to life around the eight-minute mark and never looked back, dominating the remainder of the period with a 25-9 run. Petersen scored eight points during the spurt, hitting four layups while Southard added seven points to support. The run gave Coe a 24-point lead, a large enough margin for the Kohawks to cruise to victory in the final 10 minutes of action.
