Box Score 2 CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team earned a pair of wins on Saturday at Clark Racquet center, defeating Morningside 5-4 while taking down UW-La Crosse 8-1. The victories marked a special occasion for head coach
Eric Rodgers, who earned his 599th and 600th career wins as the Coe men's tennis head coach. Rodgers, who has the fourth-most head coaching wins in DIII men's tennis history, has been in charge of the men's program since 1989 when he first started at Coe as the Director of the Clark Racquet Center and head tennis coach of the men's and women's teams. Since joining Coe, he has led 17 teams Coe men's teams to regular-season conference championships and 13 conference tournament championships while coaching over 130 all-conference players and 12 conference MVPs.
The opening dual of the day featured an impressive come-from-behind effort from the Kohawks who fell behind quickly in the opening doubles session. The Mustangs got off to a strong start in the match, picking up two of three doubles contests with 8-4 decisions at number one and number two.
Conner Kryscio and
Harry Hawbaker claimed the lone victory for the Kohawks in doubles play, earning a crucial 8-5 decision at number three to get Coe on the board. The hosts responded in singles play, securing four wins to pull off the comeback. Coe picked up a win to begin singles competition with
Graham Peterson dominating at the number three slot for a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) victory. Morningside responded with a victory at number one, regaining a lead in the dual but Coe earned three-straight victories to clinch the match.
Ivan Burt-Smith also earned a straight-set win for Coe at number two, securing a 7-5, 6-2 decision to knot the dual at three.
Alex Palomar then delivered a crucial comeback win at number four, eliminating an early 1-0 set deficit to win 2-6, 7-5, 7-6.
Grant Idoux earned the match-clinching points for the Kohawks at number five, claiming a straight-sets victory by a final score of 6-3, 6-2.
Coe dominated Coach Rodgers' milestone victory from the jump, sweeping doubles competition to race out 3-0. The pairings of

Ivan Burt-Smith and
Grant Idoux and
Jordan Oaks each secured 8-4 victories at number one and number two doubles. Kryscio and Hawbaker then finished off the sweep at number three, earning an 8-5 decision for their second doubles win of the day. The Kohawks stayed hot in singles play to secure the 600th win for their coach, claiming five of six wins to cruise to victory. Oaks, Peterson Palomar, Idoux and
Isaac Hinze all secured straight-set victories for the Kohawks, with Oaks' win at number one clinching the match. With the victories, Coe opens its season with a 2-0 mark overall while Morningside and UWL move to 2-2 and 0-3 respectively.
