ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday in the team's first day of action in Florida. The Kohawks picked up a 7-2 victory over Westminster (PA) in the opening match before falling 8-1 to Ohio Northern in its second contest of the day. Coe had a strong start in doubles against Westminster, picking up a pair of wins at number one and number two to go up 2-1. The Kohawks finished the job in singles in a dominant manner, winning five or six matches, all in straight sets.
Madison Schultz, Emma Lassen and
Courtney Carstensen all earned their second wins of the day in singles competition, helping the Kohawks to their first win in Florida. Ohio Northern took care of business in doubles in the second contest, sweeping the competition while surrendering just five total games to Coe. Schultz secured Coe's lone win in singles, earning an impressive 6-3, 6-4 decision over Abby Cruser at the number one position. With the results, Coe goes to 11-3 on the year and Westminster and Ohio Northern move to 10-5 overall 4-3 respectively.
