ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College men's tennis team took down UW-Superior 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon, handing the Yellowjackets their first loss of the 2023 season. The Kohawks got things started with a pair of dominant victories at number one and number two doubles. Coe's top pair of
Ivan Burt-Smith and
Graham Peterson picked up their seventh win of the season, claiming an 8-2 win at the number one spot.
Jordan Oaks and
Grant Idoux then confirmed Coe's lead ahead of singles play, earning an 8-1 decision at number two.
Isaac Hinze and
Conner Kryscio came up just short in Coe's search for the doubles sweep, suffering a narrow 8-6 defeat as UW-Superior salvaged one team point. The Kohawks went on to dominate singles play, securing five of six matches to lock up a comfortable win. Oaks, Peterson and Idoux all earned their second wins of the day in straight-sets while
Alex Palomar picked up his sixth singles win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Hinze put the icing on the cake for Coe at the number six spot, earning a 6-1, 4-6, 12-10 win as the freshman pulled out the seventh team point in the tie-breaking set. With the result, Coe moves to 7-5 overall and UW-Superior falls to 11-1.
