CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team need a clutch singles win from freshman
Grant Idoux in the squad's 5-4 semifinal victory over third-seeded Central on Thursday afternoon. Coe, which advances to the A-R-C title match with the win, got a strong start in doubles, claiming two matches in the initial competition to jump ahead.
Alex Palomar and
Isaac Hinze opened the scoring for Coe with an impressive 8-3 win at no. 3 before
Jordan Oaks and
Graham Peterson clinched the lead with a tiebreaker decision. Peterson and Palomar continued their excellent performances for Coe in singles, earning two more team points with wins at no. 2 and no. 4. Idoux secured the match-winning point for the Kohawks, erasing an early 3-0 deficit in the first set to win 7-5, 7-2 at no. 5.
