MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team earned the clinching point for the 2022-23 Bremner Cup on Wednesday, defeating Cornell College 8-1. The Kohawks, who help Coe regain control of the trophy after losing the series in 2021-22, turned in a dominant effort in the decisive victory. The squad got things started in doubles, grabbing an early 2-1 lead thanks to victories from
Isaac Hinze/Grant Idoux and
Alex Palomar/Conner Kryscio. The lone defeat came at number one, as
Graham Peterson/Ivan Burt-Smith fell 8-5 with Burt-Smith hobbled due to injury. The Kohawks completed the win in emphatic fashion, sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. With the win, Coe earns its sixth Bremner Cup since its inception in 2012-13 while the men's tennis team improves its record to 11-5 overall.
