CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The no. 18 Coe College softball team dropped its A-R-C tournament opener on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Wartburg College in a semifinal matchup. The Kohawks opened the scoring in the contest, getting an RBI single from
Shaylee Dodd in the first inning. Wartburg immediately answered, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second to take its first lead of the game. Following a lengthy rain delay, the Kohawks and Knights struggled on offense, combining for just one knock after the three-plus hour delay. Coe recorded the lone base hit, getting a leadoff double in the seventh inning but Wartburg's starter worked around the jam and recorded three-straight outs to lock down the victory. With the loss, Coe drops to 31-8 overall while Wartburg improves to 22-16 for the season.

- Coe took advantage of some sloppy play early on from Wartburg, getting a leadoff walk from Heather Boeckenstedt before Madi Parson reached on a fielding error. Dodd came through clutch two at-bats later, delivering a run-scoring double to left field to give her team an early lead. The Knights quickly responded in the second, getting a pair of runs on one hit and an error.
- The Knights got a leadoff runner after an error from the Kohawks. Ellie Thurow then got two quick outs with a flyout and a popout but issued a two-out walk to keep the inning alive. Wartburg took advantage of the miscues from Coe, getting a two-run double to take the lead which it held for good. The Kohawks and Knights both went quiet for the remainder of the game however top-seeded Coe opened the final inning with an extra-base hit from Marisa Vodicka. Wartburg eliminated the scoring chance over the next three at-bats, getting three-straight Kohawks to end the game.
Up next: Coe will wait until tomorrow, Sunday, May 14 for the NCAA Selection Show, hoping for an at-large bid to the DIII Softball Championships.
