GRINNELL, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team opened the 2023 with a 2-0 loss on the road at Grinnnell on Friday afternoon. Coe and Grinnell went toe-to-toe in the first 30-plus minutes of the game but the hosts opened the scoring with a tally in the 40th minute. Coe started strong in the second half, earning a pair of corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the second period but Grinnell weathered the storm early on. The Pioneers slammed the door on the Kohawks just over 20 minutes later, notching their second goal of the match in the 77th minute to lock up the result.

GAME FACTS
- Coe had two shots in the opening half, getting an attempt less than 15 minutes in from Sebastian Pena before Jonathan Williams had his shot saved in the 30th minute.
- Grinnell racked up four corners in the first 45 minutes and capitalized on the final one, scoring just moments after the set piece attempt.
- The Kohawks tried to ramp up the pressure in the second half, getting shots from Alan Losoya and Sam Sanchez along with two corners but the Pioneers held strong.
- Grinnell's second goal came just under a minute after a Coe corner, springing on the counter attack to double the advantage.
