PELLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team was in action over the weekend at the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships hosted by Central College.
Luke Doig and
Graham Peterson had a strong showing in the duo's first competitive matches of the season, finishing third in the A-Doubles flight on Friday evening. Doig and Peterson won their opening match 7-5 and pushed the eventual medalist-winning pair in the quarters, dropping a 6-4 decision. The Kohawk duo responded in the third-place match, securing a 6-4 win over Eli Young and Lev van Hemert from Luther.
Ivan Burt-Smith and
Jumpei Kasai also had a solid start to the year, reaching the quarterfinals of the A-Doubles flight before falling 6-3. Peterson continued his strong tournament into the singles competition, reaching the semifinals of the A flight with three wins. After a loss to the eventual second-place winner, Peterson and Van Hemert faced off in the third-place match which was won by Luther's Van Hemert 4-1, 1-4, 10-8 in a tiebreak. Kasai also made a splash in singles, securing the second-place medal in the B flight with three wins. The Kohawks then swept the podium in the C-Singles flight as
Kohen Juelfs, Harry Hawbaker and
Bode Carter placed first, second and third to wrap up a strong showing for Coe.

Up next: Coe will compete one final time in the fall, taking on the ITA Regional Championships September 29 through October 1.
