CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team earned its ninth consecutive victory on Wednesday evening at Kohawk Arena, defeating the visiting University of Dubuque Spartans 78-72 in an A-R-C clash. The Kohawks and Spartans fought back-and-forth throughout the contest as the lead changed 18 times throughout. Coe utilized a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring UD 24-18 in the final period as the hosts hit nine of their final 16 field goals including a pair of 3s.
Taylor Brunson (18),
Caydee Kirkham (17) and
Kaalyn Petersen (15) were Coe's offensive stars in the win, combining for 64 percent of the team's point total. Brunson was a point shy of her season and career-high while adding four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Kirkham made her presence felt on both ends of the floor, recording a season-high six steals with an additional four assists and three rebounds. Petersen posted her sixth-straight double-digit scoring performance and was just two rebounds short of her third consecutive double-double.

- Both teams traded buckets in the early going, each converting four field goals in the opening five minutes of action. The back-and-forth action continued over the final half of the quarter but UD managed to snag a one-point lead thanks to a late bucket from Megan Teal. It was more of the same in the opening minutes of the second quarter but UD extended its lead to two on a distance jumper from Teal. The Kohawks ripped off the first dominant run of the game during the next two minutes, scoring 10 unanswered points including a pair of 3s from Alina Anderson and Ellie Wisner. Dubuque made sure to stop the run before the halftime break, scoring six of the final eight points to pull within four at 36-32. UD kept the momentum to start the third quarter, opening the period on a 12-2 run to flip the score in its favor at 44-38. Coe didn't panic, methodically outscoring the visitors 14-8 over the next five minutes to tie the game at 52. Anderson and Wisner again hit crucial 3s during the run and were joined by Kelly Knight who hit a game-tying triple. The teams went neck-and-neck to begin the final quarter, each scoring three field goals in the first four minutes. Coe took control of the game during the next 3:45, using a 12-4 run to take a 73-66 advantage with 1:41 to play. Petersen and Brunson helped lead the spurt, scoring four and three points respectively. UD attempted to force the issue in the closing moments of the game but Coe handled the pressure and converted on offense to earn the win.
