Women’s Basketball eases past Nebraska Wesleyan, extends winning streak to 10

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team cruised to its 10th-straight win on Sunday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, handing Nebraska Wesleyan a 77-31 defeat. The Kohawks dominated the matchup from the opening whistle, holding the visitors to just four points in the opening quarter. Coe went on to win the remaining three quarters, holding the Prairie Wolves to single digits in two of the final three quarters. The Kohawks shot 42.6 percent from the floor as a team and had 13 players record points in the matchup. Caydee Kirkham had a game-high 18 points and added seven boards, five assists and three steals in just 27 minutes of action. Ellie Wisner was the only other Kohawk to hit the double-digit mark, turning in 10 points off the bench as she was 2-of-4 from distance.

GAME FACTS
  • Coe was on fire from the jump, scoring 14 of the opening 16 points in the game as Taylor Brunson led the early charge with six points. NWU slowed the run with its first bucket of the game at the 3:53 mark but Coe managed two more free throws before the end of the period to lead 16-4 after one. NWU started the second quarter better, edging Coe 8-7 in the first two-plus minutes. The hosts answered with a dominant close to the half, scoring 12 of the final 16 points to push the lead to 19. Wisner scored all 10 of her points during the run, hitting a pair of 3s while adding two free throws and a jumper just before the halftime buzzer. Coe and NWU traded points in the first few minutes of the third quarter but Coe put the game away for good with another big run, ending the quarter on a 24-4 run to take a 65-25 lead. The Kohawks turned to their bench in the final quarter and didn't skip a beat, outscoring the Prairie Wolves 12-6 in the final 10 minutes to earn their 10th-straight victory.
