DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College women's basketball team started 2024 with its eighth win in a row on Wednesday evening, defeating Luther College 72-44. The Kohawks rolled from the opening whistle, dominating the Norse in the first quarter to grab an early 22-9 lead. The hosts fought back in the second and third quarters, staying within touching distance of Coe. The visitors closed the game with another strong spell, outscoring Luther 22-8 in the final period as the Kohawks shot 10-of-15 from the field.
Caydee Kirkham and
Kaalyn Petersen continued their excellent seasons in the victory, finishing with 21 and 14 points respectively. Kirkham was efficient en route to her seventh 20-plus point performance of the year, hitting 10-of-13 shots while adding six assists and two steals. Petersen picked up her seventh double-double of the season and second is as many games, pulling down 11 boards including six on the offensive end.
Taylor Brunson was the final Kohawk to reach double-digits in the win, scoring 11 points while adding five boards and three steals.

- Coe scored the opening five points of the game but Luther quickly answered with a 5-0 run of its own. The Kohawks owned the closing six-plus minutes of the period, ripping off a 17-4 run thanks to a blistering 77.7 field goal percentage. Kirkham spearheaded the run for Coe, scoring seven points during the stretch. Luther clawed back into the game in the first seven minutes of the quarter, getting a 13-8 spurt as Coe committed four turnovers. The Kohawks righted the ship just before the break, scoring the final four points of the period as Kirkham and Petersen each converted buckets. Luther and Coe traded blows to begin the second half but the visitors maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the third period. Coe put the game away in the first few minutes of the fourth, scoring the opening eight points to push the lead past 20. The Kohawks continued to force the issue in the closing five minutes, outscoring Luther 14-8 to cruise to the victory.
