CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Coe College Wrestling team avenged an opening-round loss to 10th-ranked Johson & Wales on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats in the fifth-place match of the 2023 NWCA Duals. The victory, which was Coe's fourth of the tournament since the loss on Friday afternoon, featured six bonus-point wins from the Kohawks including three falls. Coe's run to fifth-place included wins over Cornell (47-3), #15 Wabash (20-18) and #17 UW-Whitewater (26-10) before knocking off last year's runner-up 33-10 in the fifth-place bout. 
 
The impressive weekend for the Kohawks was spearheaded by #9 LJ Richardson and unranked Mathieu Arsenault at 174 and 197 pounds with each of them posting a perfect 5-0 record throughout the championships. Richardson picked up three bonus-point victories and picked up a crucial 5-2 decision against nationally-ranked Raymond Arebalo from Wabash. Arsenault made headlines defeating #4 Dylan Harr from Johnson & Wales in both matches, securing a 14-11 decision in the opening match before a fall in 1:59 in the second matchup. Arsenault added two more bonus-point victories during the weekend en route to his perfect mark. Eighth-ranked heavyweight Damari Dancy also posted a perfect record for the Kohawks, going 4-0 with a fall and two tech falls. 
 
Cade Hornback picked up a pair of ranked wins in both matches against Johnson & Wales, defeating 11th-ranked Harrison Gordon with a fall in the opening contest before a major decision in match number two. Will Esmoil turned in a strong weekend as Coe's top ranked wrestler, going 4-1 with his lone loss coming to Patrick Wisniewski of Johnson & Wales in a 10-9 decision. Esmoil responded with four consecutive bonus-point wins closing the tournament in dominant fashion.
