CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College wrestling team opened dual action on Wednesday evening with a dominant A-R-C victory, defeating the visiting Central College Dutch 26-9 at Kohawk Arena. The Kohawks picked up victories in seven of 10 bouts to defeat the Dutch, claiming victories at 125, 133, 149, 174, 184, 197 and 285. Coe started in style with back-to-back victories from
Brayden Parke and
Bryce Parke as the brother duo picked up 9-1 and 9-6 wins respectively. The Dutch got their first points on the board in a tightly-contested match between sixth-ranked Pierre Baldwin of Coe and unranked
Kael Kurtz of the Kohawks but the nationally-ranked Baldwin edged Kurtz 3-2.
Dresden Grimm momentarily paused a nice Dutch run, claiming a major decision at 149 with a shutout 9-0 victory. The visitors made things interesting with back-to-back wins at 157 and 165 but
Ty Koedam and
Kael Scranton both fought hard to avoid any bonus points.
LJ Richardson, Jared Voss, Mathieu Arsenault and
Damari Dancy closed the deal for the Kohawks in the late stages, sweeping the final four matches to secure the victory.
