MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team won its second straight game on Saturday evening, defeating the University of Wisconsin Platteville Pioneers 68-63 in a neutral site matchup hosted by Cornell College. Junior guard
Caydee Kirkham had an explosive performance to lead the Koahwks to the victory, scoring 33 points, the third-highest single-game total in school history. The Carthage, Illinois native, who now owns the first and third-highest single-game scoring totals, scored 17 in the first half and followed with 14 in the second half. She was 12-of-20 from the floor, 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 4-of-6 from the free throw line while adding six assists, and three steals. Platteville outscored Coe in the opening quarter 20-19 despite 11 points from Kirkham, shooting an impressive 8-of-19 overall and 4-of-8 from deep. The squads traded blows during the second and third quarters as neither team held a lead larger than five throughout. Coe turned it on midway through the fourth quarter, scoring seven unanswered points to grab a five-point lead with a little over six minutes left. Kirkham then took over to ice the game, scoring 10 of the final 14 points for the Kohawks who hung on for the victory.

- The Kohawks spotted the Pioneers the game's first seven points, allowing UWP to convert a pair of layups and a 3. Coe got back into the game with back-to-back 3s from Kirkham who made it 7-6 before the seven-minute mark of the quarter. The squads traded buckets over the closing minutes of the quarter as neither led by more than one possession. The second quarter was more of the same as the Kohawks and Pioneers again played a tightly contested period. Kirkham gave Coe its first multi-possession lead late in the frame, converting a layup in the paint to make it 32-27 with 1:39 left in the half. UWP scored the next five to eliminate the deficit but Kirkham got the last point of the quarter, splitting a pair of free throws to make it 33-32 at the break. Both teams struggled to find their offensive groove in the third quarter, combining for just 22 points as the Kohawks edged the Pioneers 12-10. Ellie Wisner had four points in the frame, including a crucial three that put Coe ahead 42-40. Kirkham iced the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The junior scored the first four points of the frame before Taylor Brunson knocked down a clutch 3 to regain a 52-49 lead. Brunson added two more on the following possession at the free throw line, giving Coe a multi-possession lead at 54-49. Kirkham went back to work for the next two Kohawk buckets, converting a layup in the paint before a clutch 3 to make it 59-54. Wisner converted a massive 3 of her own a few possessions later, giving Coe a seven-point lead at 64-57 with 1:53 to play. UWP closed the gap to two on a 3 with 48 seconds to play but the Kohawks held the Pioneers scoreless for the remaining seconds while converting some clutch freebies to hold on.
