WHITEWATER, Wisc. – The Coe College men's basketball team got back on track with a road victory over UW-Whitewater on Saturday evening, defeating the Warhawks 74-60. The Kohawks were led by four players who reached double-figures with
Cooper Nailor scoring a team and game-high 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Nailor was 8-of-8 from the free throw line and was joined in double figures by
Bennett Sherry (16),
Cole Hrubes (10) and
Ryan Dolphin (10). The four Kohawks helped build an early lead in the first half, taking a 17-5 advantage through the first five. UWW fought back before the break and sliced the deficit to three, holding Coe to just 1-of-6 from 3 over the closing minutes. Whitewater controlled the first 11-plus minutes of the second half, outscoring Coe 21-14 to take a four-point lead at 48-44. The Kohawks dominated the next 3:48, ripping off a 14-2 run to regain control. Whitewater slowed the run momentarily and attempted to make a late charge of its own but Coe converted its free throws and got a game-icing layup from Dolphin in the final minute.

- Coe was nearly unstoppable to start the game, going 6-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line en route to the 17-5 lead. Dolphin had seven points during the spurt while Hrubes capped off the stretch with a 3 for the double-digit advantage. The Kohawks saw their lead disappear quickly as the Warhawks fought back, ripping off a 22-6 run during the next nine minutes. The Warhawks failed to hold the 27-23 lead for the remainder of the half as the Kohawks scored seven unanswered points for a 30-27 advantage at the break. Whitewater regained the momentum in the beginning of the second half, opening the frame with a 14-7 run. During the run, Coe shot just 3-for-9 while UWW was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The Kohawks chipped away at the four-point deficit during the next five minutes, using a 13-7 scoring run to pull back ahead 50-48. Whitewater slowed Coe's run momentarily with a game-tying bucket but the visitors pulled away, scoring eight unanswered points to take a 58-50 lead. The Warhawks made it a six-point game on the next possession but were still too far away as Coe scored five straight to make it 63-52. The Kohawks continued to build the lead before the final buzzer, going 2-of-2 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free throw line to lock up the victory.
