DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team won its sixth straight game on Tuesday evening, defeating Loras College 72-64 in its American Rivers Conference opener. The Kohawks fell behind early in the game, spotting the host Duhawks an 18-13 lead after 10 minutes. Coe stormed back in the second and third quarters, outscoring Loras a combined 46-29 in the 20 minutes to hold a 12-point lead heading into the final period. Loras refused to go away, answering with a 17-4 run in the first five minutes and change to go up 64-63. Coe ended the game with nine unanswered points, getting a go-ahead 3 from
Ellie Wisner before converting clutch free throws to ice the game. Four Kohawks hit double-figures in the game with Wisner scoring a team and game-high 18 points.

Taylor Brunson (12) joined Wisner in the double-digit club with Brunson stuffing the stat sheet as she added nine rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

- Loras controlled the opening quarter of the contest, shooting 6-of-14 from the floor, 2-of-6 from deep and 4-of-4 from the free throw line en route to an 18-13 lead after one. The Kohawks scored five unanswered to begin the second, getting a layup from Brunson and a three-point play from Kirkham who tied the game at 18. Loras settled back in and traded punches with Coe over the next seven-plus minutes of the quarter, holding a 34-31 lead with 1:30 to play in the half. The Kohawks had the final say in the half, getting a pair of buckets from Brunson who gave the visitors a narrow 35-34 lead at the break. Loras controlled the opening minutes of the third quarter, outscoring Coe 10-6 before the six-minute mark to go up 44-41. The Kohawks dominated the final 5:47 of the quarter, ripping off an 18-3 run to close the period. Helmrichs had six points during the stretch and was closely followed by Kirkham and Wisner with five each. The hosts stormed back to start the fourth quarter, using a 17-4 run to take a one-point lead with 4:27 to play. Wisner helped restore some calm for Coe a few possessions later, knocking down a crucial 3 to make it 66-64 with less than two minutes remaining. The Kohawks used the free throw line to put the game away for good down the stretch, going 6-of-6 to secure the victory.
