CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team kept its winning streak alive on Wednesday evening, defeating the Simpson College Storm 73-66 for its seventh consecutive victory. The Kohawks and Storm battled back and forth for all four quarters, with the lead changing hands 17 times throughout the contest.
Taylor Brunson was a game-changer throughout the contest, racking up a game-high 23 points while adding six rebounds and three steals. Brunson and the Kohawks pulled away late in the fourth quarter after trading punches with the Storm for three quarters. Coe, which trailed 56-55 with 5:50 to play, ended the game on a 20-10 run to close out the victory. Brunson was a driving force along the way, scoring back-to-back buckets to give Coe the lead for good. Three other Kohawks hit double-figures in the win with

- The opening quarter was evenly matched as both teams struggled early on to find the mark. The squads got into the swing of the contest around the eight-minute mark and traded blows throughout, with neither taking a lead larger than three in the period. It was more back-and-forth action in the second quarter as the Kohawks and Storm each scored 17 points during the frame. Again the lead went back-and-forth in the period but Simpson got a buzzer-beating jumper to take a narrow 34-33 lead into the break. Coe raced out of the half, scoring nine of the first 13 points to take a 42-38 advantage at the 4:42 mark of the period. Simpson kept it close over the closing minutes of the quarter, slightly edging Coe 10-9 to pull within three with 10 minutes to play. The visitors maintained the momentum early in the final quarter, ripping off an 8-2 spurt in the first four minutes of the period to regain a 56-53 advantage. Brunson tied the game with the next possession and took over the next few minutes, outscoring Simpson 6-2 by herself to put Coe up 59-58. Ellie Wisner knocked down a crucial 3 on Coe's next possession to keep momentum in its favor. Kirkham followed suit a few possessions later to snap a scoreless skid for both teams, knocking down the triple to make it 65-59. Coe saw out the victory over the final minutes, getting a layup from Helmrichs before going 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
