Volleyball takes down Ripon & Mount Mary to end regular season

RIPON, Wisc. – The Coe College women's volleyball team ended its 2024 regular season on Saturday with a pair of victories, defeating Ripon 3-0 before a 3-1 victory over Mount Mary. The Kohawks, who extended their current winning streak to seven games, were dominant on offense in the opening match, hitting .374 against Ripon in the sweep. Gracie Urbatsch had a team-high 17 kills as she hit a blistering .850 for the match. Maddie Harris led the team with 13 digs while Urbatsch had three block assists. Coe had 16 players see the floor in the second match, spreading the wealth en route to a 3-1 decision. The Kohawks eased past Mount Mary 25-7 and 25-6 in the first two sets before winning 25-11 in the fourth period. Urbatsch and Harris led the team with nine kills each while seven other Kohakws had at least one.

GAME FACTS
  • Coe wasted no time in the opening set, racing out to a 9-2 lead. The Kohawks extended the advantage to 20-5 and saw out the remaining points as Urbatsch paced the field with six kills in the period. The Kohawks built another early lead in set two, going ahead 20-10 before a timeout from the Red Hawks. Coe closed the deal with a strong run of back-to-back points including an ace from Harris and a kill from Urbatsch. Ripon battled more in set three, forcing Coe to fight for the sweep. The Kohawks fell behind 13-7 in the set and were forced to call a timeout to slow the momentum. The team answered the call and scored 14 of the next 21 points to take a 21-20 lead. Coe hung on during the closing stretch of action, scoring back-to-back points on kills from Urbatsch and Furlong.

GAME FACTS
  • Coe dominated the opening set, ripping off a stretch of nine unanswered points. The Koahwks cruised to the 1-0 lead, getting five straight to end the frame. It was more domination in set two as the Kohawks hit .667 with zero attacking errors. The set began with Coe racing out to a 10-1 lead and later extending it to 17-4. Maddy Maahs, Marissa Meyer and Urbatsch each had three kills in the period while Furlong and Kelsey Hansel had two each. MMU fought back and took advantage of a sloppy attacking set from Coe in the third, avoiding the sweep. The Kohawks completed the season-ending win in the fourth period, bouncing back to hit .536 with 16 kills and one error. Harris had a set-high six kills, hitting .750 in eight attempts.
