CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team claimed a narrow 5-4 victory over UW-Superior on Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center. Coe's win was fueled by a dominant doubles performance in which the Kohawk men swept the Yellow Jackets to take a commanding early lead.
Bryton Short and
Grant Idoux secured the first point at number three with an 8-6 win before
Ivan Burt-Smith and
Jumpei Kasai made it 2-0 at number one with an 8-6 victory.
Graham Peterson and
Luke Doig completed the doubles sweep at number two, edging out an 8-7 decision. Coe wrapped up the match victory quickly in singles play, getting immediate victories from Short and Peterson and number three and one respectively. Short picked up the fourth Kohawk point with his fourth singles win of the year, winning 6-1, 6-1 at number three. Peterson secured the win at the top singles spot with a 7-6, 6-4 decision, earning his third win as Coe's top singles player. Coe and Superior also played an additional match with their second teams, with the Kohawks again edging the Yellow Jackets 5-3 in a highly competitive contest.
Up next: Coe hosts Augustana on March 2 at 10 AM in the final match before the Spring Break trip to Florida.
