MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Coe College softball team picked up its second doubleheader sweep in as many days on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Cornell College Rams 9-1 in game one and 9-4 in game two of a Bremner Cup doubleheader. Coe racked up 15 hits in the opening game, winning via the run rule in five innings. The Kohawks scored twice in the second inning and then struck for three in the fourth and four in the fifth to clinch the early win.
Ruby Kappeler and
Madi Parson combined for four hits and six RBI to lead the team as Kappeler recorded her third four-plus RBI performance in a row. The duo came up big again for the Kohawks in the second win of the day, picking up five of Coe's eight RBIs. Parson scored two runs while leading the team with three RBI and Kappeler hit her third homer in four games.

- Cornell scored its lone run in the top of the second inning, taking an early lead with a two-out, bases-loaded single. Coe's offense quickly responded in the bottom of the second inning, scoring twice as Addie Menke and Heather Boeckenstedt picked up RBIs. The Kohawks stretched the lead to four in the fourth with three runs on five hits. Kappeler started the party with a double to left-center, scoring Boeckenstedt and Menke who had reached with singles. Parson then plated Kappeler with a single to right, extending the lead to 5-1. The Kohawks secured the run-rule victory in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on five hits. All four were scored with two outs as Kappeler, Parson and Skyler Stookey combined for the game-winning runs.

- The Rams jumped ahead again in game two, scoring the opening run in the top of the third inning with a bases-loaded groundout. The Kohawks wasted no time in regaining the momentum, striking with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the third. Parson drove home the first two of the inning, plating Boeckenstedt and Kappeler who singled to lead off the frame. Stookey immediately pushed Parson home in the next at-bat, making it 3-1 with an RBI double. Coe's final run of the inning scored on a defensive miscue with Stookey scoring from second on an errant throw to first. The Kohawks added more in the fourth, scoring four times on three hits. Kappeler smashed her third homer of the year just two hitters in, driving home Boeckenstedt who again reached with a single. Bree Mangelsen recorded the final two RBI of the frame, driving home a pair with a double to left center. Cornell momentarily pulled itself back into the game in the fifth, getting three runs on two hits but Abbie White managed to leave a pair of runners in scoring position. Coe picked up one final insurance run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to Parson, who produced an RBI single to center to score Boeckenstedt.
Up Next: The Kohawks are back in action on Saturday for their home opener, hosting Grinnell College at 3 PM for a non-conference doubleheader.
