CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College softball team belted five homers and outscored Loras 13-0 in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, defeating the visiting Duhawks 4-0 and 9-0 in a pair of A-R-C contests. The Kohawks got a pair of two-run homers from
Madi Parson and
Shaylee Dodd in the bottom of the third inning of game two, backing up a combined shutout from
Ellie Thurow and
Abbie White who combined to allow just three hits with five strikeouts. Thurow spun another gem in game two but got some more help from her offense as Coe scored nine runs including homers from
Bree Mangelsen and Parson. Mangelsen opened the scoring with a solo blast in the second before Parson made it 4-0 with a two-run blast in the third. Mangelsen added another solo shot in the fourth and set the table for Coe's offense to break the game open.
Ruby Kappeler and
Shaylee Dodd picked up the final RBI of the game and ensured the run-rule victory as Thurow recorded the final three outs in the top of the fifth.

- Both teams were quiet early in the game, going scoreless in the opening two and a half frames. The Kohawks were quickly down to two outs in the third but Kappeler started the rally with a walk. Parson delivered the game's opening runs in the next at-bat crushing a two-run homer over the center-field fence. Coe continued to do damage with two outs, following with a double from Skyler Stookey and another two-run blast from Dodd for a 4-0 lead. Loras put a runner on base in the fourth and fifth innings, getting a runner in scoring position in both but Thurow and White hung tough to keep the Duhawks off the board. White settled down for the final two frames and cruised to the finish line, recording a pair of 1-2-3 innings.

- Coe again started the scoring with a homer in game two, getting a two-out solo blast from Mangelsen in the bottom of the second. The Kohawks added more to their total in the third, scoring three runs on two hits. Heather Boeckenstedt walked to start the inning and was quickly driven home as Kappeler laced a ball to the left-field corner. Parson hit her second homer of the day one batter later, bringing home Kappeler with another towering shot to left field. Mangelsen kept the offense going in the fourth, leading off with a solo homer that lasered over the left-center wall. Coe loaded the bases later in the frame for Kappeler who continued her stellar season, clearing the bases with a double off the wall. Dodd capped off the explosive inning with one final run, making it 9-0 with a sacrifice to center. Thurow returned to the circle to polish off the victory, working around a leadoff double for her second win of the day.
Up Next: Coe returns to action on Tuesday, April 23, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan in an A-R-C doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 3 PM.
