GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Coe College softball team capped off an unbeaten run in the Greencastle Regional on Saturday with a 12-9 victory over DePauw, clinching a spot in the Super Regional round for the second straight season. The Kohawks and Tigers traded blows throughout the game but Coe's offense proved the difference, scoring in four of its six offensive innings. DePauw started the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run homer. Coe quickly answered with one in the first and followed with eight runs in the second, taking advantage of a pair of defensive miscues to go along with five hits.
Madi Parson, Shaylee Dodd, Keera Ball and
Marisa Vodicka all picked up RBI hits in the inning with Vodicka delivering a two-run blast to cap the explosion. The Tigers clawed back to within one run of Coe's lead in the fifth but the Kohawks put the game away with two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Starting pitcher
Ellie Thurow earned her 18th win of the season, pitching 4.1 innings before handing the ball to
Abbie White. White did well in relief, earning her first save of the season as she worked the final two-plus innings.

- DePauw did early damage via the long ball, opening the scoring with a two-run blast three batters in. Coe got one back in its half of the first, using an RBI single from Skyler Stookey to halve the deficit. The Kohawks stormed in front in the second, scoring eight times with two outs. Parson started the inning with an RBI single before Dodd made it 3-2 with a one-run single. Bree Mangelsen kept the rally going and cleared the bases on a defensive miscue as Coe scored three runs to make it 6-2. Ball doubled in the next at-bat to bring home Mangelsen and Vodicka capped off the giant inning with a two-run blast to make it 9-2. DePauw got a two-run homer in the third and later added four runs in the fifth, pulling to within one run at 9-8. Ruby Kappeler restored Coe's multi-run lead in the bottom of the inning, delivering a two-run double to score Heather Boeckenstedt and Addie Menke. Boeckenstedt drove home Coe's final run of the victory in the sixth, scoring Maggie Strupp with a double through the left side. White sealed the regional title in the seventh, surrendering one run to the Tigers before getting the final batter to fly out to left.
Up Next: Coe will take on Case Western Reserve University in the Super Regional round, taking on the Spartans in a three-game series on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24. The location of the series will be announced soon via ncaa.com.
