CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season in style on Wednesday evening at Clark Field, defeating the visiting Cornell College Rams 2-1 in the third leg of the 2024-25 Bremner Cup competition. The Kohawks started the scoring early, finding the back of the net inside the first minute as freshman
Maggie Preuss scored her first collegiate goal to give the hosts the lead.
Mac Adams scored her second of the season moments later, making it 2-0 in the 5th minute. Cornell slowly grew into the game and halved the deficit in the 59th minute, scoring from the penalty spot but the Kohawk defense stood tall over the closing moments of the game to secure the win and Bremner point.

GAME FACTS
- Coe struck from the opening whistle, scoring the first goal just over 30 seconds in as Preuss finished off a solid team move. Maya Schweiger began the transition with a pass to Adams out of the back before Coe's second goal scorer found Preuss streaking down the right wing. The freshman stayed calm and took a few touches before slotting it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead. Adams got back on the scoresheet minutes later with a brilliant individual effort, picking up a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area and firing a long-distance effort over the keeper's outstretched hand. The Rams tried to answer before the end of the opening half, striking the post in the 24th minute and forcing a save from Lilly Monroe in the 37th. The visitors got one back from the penalty spot early in the second half, making it 2-1 with over 30 minutes to play. Coe's defense did well to control the game over the closing stretch, holding Cornell to just two shots as the early goals proved enough.
