Men's Tennis Individual Championship Recap: Short & Kasai claim A-Doubles silver medals, Palomar & Hinze win B-Doubles flight

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's tennis team competed in the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center and the Veterans Memorial Tennis Courts. The Kohawk men secured five medals in total during the tournament, two in doubles and three in singles play. Jumpei Kasai and Bryton Short finished runner-up in the top doubles flight, securing a silver medal with victories over a duo from Wartburg and two from Luther. The pair suffered a 6-2 defeat in the championship match to top-seeded pair Luke Westholder and Joao Benvenutti of Luther. Short also showed well in the top singles flight, finishing third for a bronze medal after starting the tournament as the fifth overall seed. Coe's second doubles medal came in the B-Flight as Alex Palomar and Isaac Hinze combined to go 4-0 including a 6-4 win in the championship match over Travis Subbert and Benny Ramker of Central. Coe got another gold medal in the B singles flight with freshman Joshua Tiemann posting a perfect 4-0 mark. The St. Louis native edged his championship opponent Jack Briggs 2-4, 4-0, 10-7 in comeback fashion. The final medal of the championships came in the C singles flight from Nathaniel Miller, getting a bronze medal to bring the team total to five.
