LINCOLN, Neb. – The Coe College men's basketball team suffered a 71-59 defeat to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves Saturday afternoon in an American Rivers Conference matchup. The hosts started the game on top, taking a multi-possession lead before the 14-minute mark of the first half. Coe stormed back late in the period, erasing a double-digit deficit to tie the game at 25 before the halftime break. The Kohawks scored the opening bucket of the second period but the Prairie Wolves answered, scoring 12 unanswered points to reestablish a significant advantage. NWU maintained the lead for much of the remaining time but Coe pulled to within seven with 3:43 to play as
Zach Strauss knocked down three-straight long-distance jumpers. Nebraska Wesleyan settled the game down and took back a double-digit lead with back-to-back buckets, putting the game on ice with 2:30 to play.
Bennett Sherry had a team-high 20 points and added seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists.
Cooper Nailor was Coe's only other player to hit double-digits, posting 11 points with five steals and two assists.

- The hosts started well in the first half, getting a 9-4 run in the first five-plus minutes. NWU slowly pushed the lead during the next phase of play, outscoring Coe 13-6 to take a 22-12 lead with 8:25 left in the half. The Kohawks dominated the closing stretch of play, taking a 25-24 lead before the one-minute mark with a 13-2 run. Nailor and John Steffen each had a pair of buckets during the stretch while Hrubes delivered the go-ahead 3. Wesleyan scored the final point of the period, tying the game at 25 with a free throw in the closing seconds. Sherry gave Coe a three-point lead to start the half, hitting an opening 3 but NWU owned the following phase. The hosts scored 12 unanswered points in the next 3:15, regaining a 37-28 lead. Wesleyan extended the advantage to 18 later in the half, using a 20-11 run to take control. Coe's final run fell just short, scoring 14 of the next 17 points to pull within seven. The Prairie Wolves closed the door with a 7-2 run in the next 1:36, getting back-to-back layups before a game-clinching 3.
