CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College volleyball team won its second straight match Saturday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, defeating the visiting Simpson College Storm 3-2. The Kohawks and Storm battled back-and-forth from the opening set, trading wins throughout before the decisive fifth. A strong start for the Kohawks gave the hosts a 25-19 win in the opener before a strong 25-22 response from Simpson in set two. Coe used a string of points midway through set three to establish momentum and continued to force the issue as it took a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 victory. Simpson forced the decisive fifth set with an impressive showing in set four, holding Coe to nine kills and eight errors for a 25-21 victory. The Kohawks raced out to a 10-2 lead in the final set and later fended off a run from the Storm, ultimately clinching the match with a 15-9 victory.
Najolie Price led Coe's attack with 11 kills and a .375 attack percentage while
Maddy Maahs added 34 assists and six kills from the setter's spot. Defensively,
Elise Blaesing had a career-high 18 digs while
Tessa Casebolt had four blocks.

COE 3 - SIMPSON 2
- Coe scored six of the first eight points in the opening set, getting three early kills from Price to set the tone. The Kohawks slowly built upon the lead, extending the advantage to seven at 20-13. Simpson fought until the final point of the set, pulling within four at 23-19 before back-to-back points for Coe. Simpson and Coe went back-forth in the second set but a slight 18-15 edge for the Storm gave the visitors control. Coe got it back to a two-point deficit after a timeout until Simpson closed the door with two of the final three points. Set three was also tightly contested with the teams separated by just one at 13-12. The Kohawks went on a four-point run and never looked back, extending the advantage to 17-12 before cruising to a 2-1 lead in the match. Simpson controlled the third set from the opening whistle, taking a 9-4 lead before battling back late with six unanswered points. Coe responded well in the clincher, ripping off 10 of the first 12 points to gain control. Simpson refused to go away quietly, slicing Coe's lead to five at 14-9 but a match-clinching kill from Price sealed the deal.
