Beckett and Furlong unstoppable as Volleyball sweeps Wartburg

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Kohawks entered their final conference match against the Wartburg Knights with the number two seed in the standings wrapped up, the Kohawks would look to end conference play with a win against a bitter rival. Coe would sweep the Knights 3-0 on the backs of Avery Beckett and Maggie Furlong's 24 combined kills. As a team, the Kohawks would finish with an impressive .430 hitting percentage, a season high. The first two sets would go to the Kohawks, with the second set being won in convincing fashion, as Coe would dominate the set 25-9. The Knights would put up a good fight in the third set with the Kohawks having to come back, down 7-2 early on. The Kohawks would roar back to tie up the set at 17-17, and would complete the comeback by winning the third and final set 25-22. With the victory, the Kohawks would finish conference play with a 7-1 record, 18-8 overall.

  • The Knights would jump to an early lead after a back-and-forth start, leading 9-5. Four kills each from Furlong and Beckett would help the Kohawks take the first set. The second set would see the Kohawks leading 5-1, with Najolie Price collecting two of the first five points of the set. Coe would rattle off seven straight points to bring the score to 18-8, with kills from Maddie Harris and Furlong. Furlong would finish the set with four more kills. The Kohawks would run away with the second set going on another seven-point run, winning the set 25-9. Wartburg would come out strong in the third set taking the early lead 7-2. Coe would come out of the early timeout and bring the score closer at 11-13. The Kohawks would finally bring the score to even at 17-17 as they looked to make a comeback and seal the third set. The comeback would be complete as the Kohawks would collect eight of the next 13 points to win the third set 25-22 and sweep the Knights 3-0.
