CHICAGO, ILL. — The Coe College volleyball team concluded its non-conference slate Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches, splitting contests with Ohio Wesleyan and hosts North Park University. The Kohawks were forced to play five sets in both matchups, falling 3-2 to the Battling Bishops before outlasting the Vikings 3-2. Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the opener, winning the first set 26-24 but Coe responded with back-to-back set wins to grab a 2-1 advantage. The Battling Bishops responded with a dominant showing in set four, winning 25-17 before clinching the match with a 15-11 victory. Coe dropped the opening set of match two but bounced back in the following two periods, winning 26-24 and 25-11 to take the advantage. North Park forced a decider, edging Coe 25-23 in the fourth before a strong 15-10 match-sealing victory in the fifth.
Maggie Furlong led Coe's attacking effort with 16 kills in the first match and was closely followed by
Avery Beckett with 14. Match two featured four Kohawks with double-digit kills as Beckett (14),
Marissa Meyer (10),
Kelsey Hansel (10) and Furlong (10) hit the mark.

OHIO WESLEYAN 3 - COE 2
- Set one was back-and-forth but Coe took a 16-13 after an 8-2 run. Ohio Wesleyan responded with a spurt of its own, scoring nine of the final 13 points to take a 26-24 victory. The Kohawks opened an 11-1 lead in the second set and cruised to victory, scoring 11 of the final 16 points to level the match. Coe used a big run midway through the third set to establish control, getting a 6-2 run to go up 16-10. Ohio Wesleyan steadied the ship momentarily but Coe scored three-straight to reestablish control and see out the set. Coe led 12-8 near the midway point of set four but Ohio Wesleyan stormed back, ripping off a 17-5 run to force the fifth set. Ohio Wesleyan rode the momentum into the fifth set and secured the victory, scoring 15 of the final 22 points after Coe ripped off four to start.

COE 3 - NORTH PARK 2
- North Park took an early lead after a late scoring stretch, erasing a 19-17 deficit with 8 of the next 10 points to go up 1-0. Coe trailed 18-11 late in the second set but answered with five straight points to pull within reaching distance. The Kohawks finished strong, scoring nine of the final 12 points to knot the match at one. Coe dominated the third set, taking an early 15-5 lead before easing over the finish line. Set four was back-and-forth with the teams traded blows throughout. The Vikings used a strong closing stretch, ripping off a 7-2 run to finish off the set. Coe scored the opening three points of set five and fended off a charge from NPU, scoring three straight to establish an 11-7 lead that was large enough to see out.
