Box Score 4 CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's tennis team had a dominant showing Saturday in four matches, improving its season record to 8-2 with victories over Greenville, Dubuque, Cornell and Lake Forest. The Kohawks defeated Greenville 4-3 in the first match of the day at Clark Racquet Center, edging the visitors in doubles with wins from
Jumpei Kasai / Bryton Short and
Ivan Burt-Smith / Graham Peterson. The Kohawks edged out the victory in singles with wins at number one, four and five with Burt-Smith, Peterson and
Joshua Tiemann securing the three points needed. Coe handled Dubuque in its first match in Mount Vernon, taking down the Spartans 6-1 in the team's second A-R-C match of the season. Coe swept doubles play with wins from
Jumpei Kasai / Luke Doig,
Isaac Hinze /
Alex Palomar and
Reed Kruger /
Kohen Juelfs. Doig, Hinze, Palomar,
Nathaniel Miller and Juelfs then polished off the Spartans in singles, helping secure Coe's second league win of the season. Coe's Mount Vernon squad handled business in the second match of the day against Cornell, picking up the Bremner Cup point with a 6-1 decision. A sweep of doubles from Doig / Kasai, Hinze / Palomar and Miller / Juelfs gave the Kohawks a perfect start before winning five of six singles contests. Kasai, Doig, Hinze, Palomar and Miller were Coe's singles victors, with all but Hinze winning in straight sets. Coe's perfect day ended back at the Racquet Center against the Foresters, defeating the visitors 5-2. Another sweep in the doubles competition gave Coe the early lead while Burt-Smith, Short, Tiemann and
Daniel Rohlman finished the job in singles.
