INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team won its fourth straight game Wednesday evening, defeating the Simpson College Storm 82-68 in an A-R-C road matchup. The Kohawks, who earned the season sweep over Simpson, started well with a 22-15 advantage after the opening quarter as
Kelly Knight turned in eight early points. Simpson slowly got back into the game, starting the fourth quarter down just three points at 52-49. The Storm quickly tied the game in the fourth period and kept it close until the 7:32 mark when the Kohawks took over. Knight started a 9-0 run moments later, opening the spurt with a 3 that put Coe ahead for good. The Kohawks offense was led by three double-digit scorers as
Taylor Brunson (23), Knight (19) and
Caydee Kirkham (13) hit the mark while
Audrie Helmrichs, Taryn Kravig and
Ellie Wisner had eight each. Coe shot 58.8 percent from the field overall and 54.5 percent from deep, going 12-of-22 from beyond the arc including Knight's 5-of-8 display.

- The Kohawks had a solid start to the opening quarter, scoring 10 of the opening 12 points as Knight and Wisner hit back-to-back 3s to begin the game. Simpson fought back over the next five-plus minutes, clawing back to a two-point deficit at 17-15 with 57 seconds left in the period. The Kohawks regained control and multi-possession lead before the end of the quarter, getting five unanswered from Knight who hit her second 3 of the frame. The teams were neck-and-neck in the second quarter, trading baskets throughout but Coe managed to maintain a solid advantage before the break. Brunson had eight points in the quarter, connecting on six free throws while Knight converted her third triple of the game to give Coe a 41-33 lead at half. The Kohawks extended the lead to 10 in the first few minutes of the third quarter but Simpson came back and closed the gap to three before the start of the fourth. The Storm continued to surge in the opening possessions of the fourth, tying the game at 57 with a 3. Coe pulled away two possessions later, getting a 3 from Knight to kickstart the spurt. The Kohawks got two more 3s to cap the run as Kirkham buried a pair of triples to make it 68-59 with 5:30 to play. Simpson closed the gap to eight with another 3 with 3:20 to play but the Kohawks scored 10 of the final 14 points to seal the victory.
