CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's tennis team played its first weekend of split-squad matches Saturday, hosting Loras and UW-La Crosse while facing Northwestern (IA) and Central in Pella. The Kohawk men turned in a 3-1 performance throughout the competitions, picking up 7-0 victories over Loras, UW-La Crosse and Central while falling 5-2 to Northwestern. The Kohawk men dominated the matches at Clark Racquet Center, shutting out the Duhawks and Eagles in style. A strong sweep of the doubles competition gave Coe the early lead before claiming all six singles matches with
Bryton Short, Grant Idoux, Graham Peterson, Joshua Tiemann, Jumpei Kasai and
Nathaniel Miller securing the sweep.
Ivan Burt-Smith stepped into the number one spot for the victory over UW-La Crosse, leading Short, Idoux, Peterson, Tiemann and Kasai who polished off the unblemished record. Coe and Northwestern went toe-to-toe in the doubles competition but the Raiders edged the team point with a narrow 7-6 decision at number one. Coe managed two singles matches despite falling overall, getting wins from
Daniel Rohlman and number one and
Reed Kruger at number five. The Kohawks finished off the day in style with a 7-0 victory over Central, cruising past the Dutch. Coe picked up a pair of 6-3 wins at number one and two doubles before a 7-5 decision ensured the perfect sweep.
Isaac Hinze, Harry Hawbaker, Kruger,
Alex Palomar, Bode Carter and
Kohen Juelfs were a perfect six-of-six in the singles matches, all winning in straight sets to cap off the day.
