OLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories Friday, knocking off Bethel 6-1 before taking down Vassar 5-2. The Kohawk men started the day with a dominant display in doubles, picking up three wins in the competition to go up early.
Bryton Short / Jumpei Kasai, Ivan Burt-Smith / Daniel Rohlman and
Graham Peterson / Joshua Tiemann were Coe's victors in the competition, picking up 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3 wins. Coe went on to easily complete the victory in singles, taking five of six matchups to get past the Royals.
Grant Idoux, Tiemann, Peterson, Rohlman and Kasai earned victories in the singles competition, each claiming victory in straight sets. Coe also took down Bethel in a second match, playing a split squad contest with the Royals. Coe dominated for a 6-1 victory in the contest, sweeping doubles again while winning five of six singles bouts. The Kohawks jumped ahead in their second match of the day against Vassar, taking two of three doubles matches to lead 1-0. Kasai / Short and Burt-Smith / Rohlman combined at the top two doubles spots for the Kohawks, winning 7-6, 6-4. Rohlman and Kasai continued their winning streaks into singles, giving Coe a 3-1 lead with three matches to play. Short clinched the victory at number two, defeating his opponent 7-6, 6-4 for his third win of the day.
