ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College men's tennis team went 2-1 in a trio of spring break matches Sunday, defeating St. Lawrence 6-1 and 5-2 in a pair of contests before suffering a 4-3 defeat to Connecticut College. The Kohawks dominated their matches against the Saints, claiming the doubles competitions in both. In Coe's 6-1 win,
Daniel Rolhman / Ivan Burt-Smith and
Joshua Tiemann / Graham Peterson picked up wins to take an early lead, winning 6-3 and 6-4 at number two and three. The Kohawks went on to dominate singles, getting wins from
Bryton Short, Tiemann,
Grant Idoux, Rohlman and Kasai to secure the victory. The second squad made it two-from-two against the Saints, opening with another point in doubles as
Luke Doig / Alex Palomar and
Nathaniel Miller / Isaac Hinze won 6-3 and 6-4 in the top two spots. Doig, Hinze and Miller all proceeded to pick up individual wins in singles and were joined by
Kohen Jeulfs who put the icing on the cake with a tie breaking victory at number six. Coe's final match of the day was competitive from the start but Connecticut College jumped ahead after doubles with wins at number one and three. Burt-Smith and Rohlman claimed a win at number two in doubles, edging their opponents 7-5. Coe continued to fight in singles but the Camels picked up early wins at number one, two and five to clinch the victory. Despite the loss, Idoux, Tiemann and Kasai secured wins in singles with Idoux and Tiemann escaping with wins in tiebreaking sets.
