HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Coe College women's tennis team wrapped up action in Hilton Head Island yesterday, claiming a pair of wins over The College at Wooster and Indiana University Southeastern while dropping a match to DI opponent College of Charleston. The Kohawks opened with an impressive win over Wooster in the early contest, knocking off the Fighting Scots 5-2. A doubles forfeit gave Wooster a 1-0 lead but
Maddie Schultz, Alli Hagness, Maria Bello Escobar, Jaden Fuqua and
Giana Akins responded in singles with wins in all five matches. The Kohawk women continued to shine in the match against the Grenadiers, claiming a 6-1 split squad victory. Doubles teams
Alice Tysoe / Sophia Fain, Addison Leasure / Cosette Gaines and
Makayla Baxter / Isabella Castle gave Coe a 1-0 lead with a sweep of the competition. Fain, Leisure, Tysoe, Gaines and Castle proceeded to secure the second win of the day for Coe in singles, with all but Castle winning in straight sets. Castle earned a gritty tiebreak victory at number six, coming back from a one-set deficit to win 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
