CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday, defeating St. Ambrose 4-3 at Clark Racquet Center while falling 5-2 to Carleton College in a neutral site match in Winona, Minnesota. The Kohawk men picked up a victory in the match at home against the Bees, opening with a strong sweep in doubles as Grant Idoux / Luke Doig, Alex Palomar / Isaac Hinze and Harry Hawbaker / Reed Kruger polished off the perfect start. Hawbaker, Kruger and Nathaniel Miller completed the victory for Coe in singles, winning their matches at number four, five and six singles. The Kohawks also secured the doubles point in the defeat to Carleton, getting victories at number one and two from pairings Bryton Short / Jumpei Kasai and Ivan Burt-Smith / Daniel Rohlman. The no. 36 Knights fought back in singles with five of six wins as Joshua Tiemann claimed the lone win for Coe at number four. The freshman Tiemann claimed a 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 tiebreaking victory over his opponent to help Coe avoid the singles sweep.
