DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College men's tennis team fell at Luther Saturday afternoon in a clash of the top two A-R-C squads, suffering a 5-2 defeat to the Norse. Luther took the lead in the contest thanks to a 2-1 score in doubles. Luther won matches at number two and three, edging the Kohawks despite a win at number one from
Bryton Short and
Jumpei Kasai. The Norse claimed the opening two decisions in singles, winning at number five and six to go one point away from the victory.
Joshua Tiemann and
Ivan Burt-Smith kept it close with singles wins at number three and four but Luther finished the job with wins at number one and number four. Tiemann won in straight sets at number three, claiming a 6-3, 7-6 victory while Burt-Smith edged his opponent in a tiebreaker, winning 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
