GRINNELL, Iowa – The Coe College softball team picked up its first doubleheader sweep of the 2025 season Wednesday afternoon, taking down in-state foe Grinnell 11-2 and 12-4 in a pair of victories. The Kohawks had a combined 26 hits in the two games and backed up solid pitching performances from
Abbie White and
Natalie Hitt. Coe took the lead in the opener on a sacrifice fly in the first inning but Grinnell scored its only two runs as a response in the bottom of the frame. Coe proceeded to plate one in the second and third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth, exploding six RBI hits during the stretch.
Haydn Shoots had three hits and three RBI in the contest to lead the offense while
Addie Menke drove in a pair of runs. The Kohawks took a three-run lead in the first inning of game two but quickly saw the hosts answer with two runs in the first and second. Coe responded with two in the third to regain a lead on RBI hits from
Maddie Harris and Shoots before scoring seven runs in the fifth inning.
Marisa Vodicka drove home the first run of the frame and was followed by a two-run single from
Taylor Drayfahl.
Maggie Strupp put the icing on the cake with a bases-clearing double, plating three Kohawks for the 12-4 victory.

- Shoot opened the scoring for the day in the first, driving home Nicole Wagner with a sacrifice fly. Grinnell took the lead right back in the home half, scoring two on a double just four batters in. Coe slowly regained control of the game, scoring once in the second on a wild pitch and once in the third on an RBI single from Haley Sanders. The Kohawks blew it open in the top of the fourth with three runs on four hits, getting back-to-back RBI from Wagner and Menke to make it 5-2 before Menke scored on a wild pitch. The scoring continued in the fifth inning as Coe poured it on, getting another RBI from Menke and a run on a wild pitch as Wagner made it 9-2. Shoots fittingly concluded the scoring for Coe later in the inning, driving home Vodicka and Harris with a two-run single. Anna Bamlet entered the game in relief of White in the fifth inning and polished off the game in style, recording a 1, 2, 3 frame in her first outing of 2025.

- Coe's offense struck early again in game two, scoring three times in the opening inning on RBI from Menke, Harris and Shoots as the visitors had four hits in the frame. Grinnell responded in the next two, scoring twice in the bottom of the first and twice in the second to take a 4-3 lead. Coe immediately took the lead back in the third, getting a leadoff walk from Menke followed by an RBI double from Harris. Shoots continued her hot day later in the inning, driving home Harris to put Coe back ahead 5-4. Coe exploded later in the game, scoring seven runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth to break it open. Menke, Harris and Vodicka started with three consecutive singles as Vodicka made it 6-4 with an RBI. Drayfahl drove home a pair two batters later with the bases loaded, making it 8-4 with a single. The big blow came the following at bat as Strupp drove home three with a bases-clearing double. Harris concluded the scoring with her third RBI of the game, making it 12-4 with a sacrifice fly to center.
