CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College baseball team splits its final home doubleheader of 2025 Saturday, defeating Loras 8-6 in game one before dropping game two 6-5 in 10 innings. Coe totaled 13 hits in the opening game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead. The Kohawks would add two in the third and two in the sixth, fighting off a late charge from the Duhawks who cut the deficit to two with a pair of solo homers in the top of the ninth inning.
Ethan O'Donnell picked up his fourth win of the season, going six innings while allowing three hits and one earned run.
CJ Johnson stayed hot with a four-RBI game, driving home a pair in the opening frame and in the third to establish the early advantage. Loras salvaged the third game of the series, matching Coe's 10 hits while erasing a 5-2 deficit. The Duhawks scored twice in the eighth inning after a defensive miscue from Coe and later took the lead in extras on a softly hit ground ball that Coe's defense couldn't turn for two.

- Coe got things started with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Mitchell Eckardt and Jon Wille started with a single and a double to put two in scoring position. A bases-loaded hit by pitch for Ryan Thoreson made it 1-0 before CJ Johnson drove home two with a two-out single. Loras got one back in the top of the third, getting a leadoff double and a productive groundout two batters later to put one on the board. The Kohawks responded in their half of the inning, scoring twice on another clutch single from CJ Johnson as he drove home Tyce Johnson and Thoreson for 5-1. Loras kept clawing back with two in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of three defensive mistakes to make it 5-3. The Duhawks got even closer in the sixth, scoring their fourth on a wild pitch but a key groundout kept Coe in front at 5-4. Eckardt got that run back moments later, walking with one out before making his way around the bases and scoring on a wild pitch. Thoreson drove home Coe's seventh run with a two-out single later on, continuing his clutch hitting as he drove home Jake Brosius. Brosius made it 8-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, following up a leadoff double from Wille with a run-scoring single. Loras made it interesting with a pair of solo shots in the top of the ninth but Evan Bender entered for the final out and locked down his second save of the season.

LORAS 6 - COE 5 - 10 INNINGS

- Loras scored the first two runs of game two, getting a solo homer in the top of the second before a passed ball in the third made it 2-0. Coe responded with three runs in the bottom of the second, taking its first lead thanks to a two-RBI hit from Thoreson and a bases-loaded walk from CJ Johnson. Brosius and Thoreson extended the lead in the fourth with one RBI each, using a one-out single and sacrifice fly to put Coe up 5-2. Loras snagged one back in the top of the inning, scoring its third of the game on a two-out single to keep it close. The Duhawks tied the game in the eighth, getting a one-out base runner after a defensive miscue from Coe. The visitors came up clutch with a two-out, two-run single, leveling the game at 5. Coe had a chance to regain the lead in the eighth but stranded a pair of runners on base as Loras got a clutch groundout. Both teams left two on in the ninth but Loras found the run in the 10th, scoring on a softly hit ground ball with runners on the corners as Coe was unable to turn two.
