CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College baseball team completed the season sweep against Simpson College Tuesday afternoon at Daniels Park, winning the third game of the series 5-0 over the Storm. Coe was led by
Nolan Schroeder who turned in another strong pitching performance to lead the Kohawks to their seventh shutout of the year. The junior tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, scattering two hits while striking out four hitters. Schroeder picked up his first win of the year and was backed up by RBI hits from a trio of Kohawks as
Tyce Johnson,
Ryan Thoreson and
Will Hosch were responsible for driving in the runs. Johnson opened the scoring in the third and was followed by Thoreson who delivered a clutch bases-loaded double to increase the lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Hosch made it 5-0 before the end of the inning, driving home Thoreson to cap off the scoring.

- Coe left runners on base in the first and second inning but took the lead in the third, scoring on a two-out single from Johnson as he drove home Jake Brosius. Schroeder got a clutch double play in the following top half inning to ensure a shutdown frame, walking and hitting back-to-back batters before the inning ending 4-6-3. Coe added four runs in the bottom of the fifth, using two hits and a defensive miscue to go ahead 5-0. Jon Wille, Jake Brosius and Johnson reached to start the inning, setting the table for Thoreson who cleared the bases with a double to right center. Hosch made it 5-0 before the end of the frame, driving home the Kohawk catcher with a single to right. Schroeder returned for the sixth inning and worked around a leadoff walk and error, getting a flyout and back-to-back groundouts to end the frame. Drew Osterman came into the game after a strikeout in the seventh and pitched the final 2.2 innings, working around traffic in both frames before slamming the door on the Storm.
