CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The American Rivers Conference announced its postseason baseball awards Wednesday afternoon, honoring eight Kohawks in total.
Jack Walsh, Ryan Thoreson and
Jake Brosius highlighted the selections for Coe, being named first team honorees while
Ethan O'Donnell, Mitchell Eckardt and
Tyce Johnson were selected to the second team.
Jack Allison and
Jon Wille rounded out Coe's all-conference selections, earning honorable mention status. A sophomore from Dubuque, Walsh is earning his first all-conference honor after a dominant season on the bump. The righty was 4-1 in eight appearances, making seven starts while posting a 2.25 ERA across 48 innings pitched. Walsh held batters to a .193 average in A-R-C play and racked up 51 strikeouts to just seven walks. Thoreson, a junior from Bettendorf, makes it back-to-back all-conference seasons as he picked up an honorable mention selection last year. The Kohawk backstop hit a team-high .378 in league play with 37 hits including seven doubles and two triples. He drove in a team-best 23 RBI and had an on-base percentage of .461 to lead the Kohawks. Brosius capped off his career with his third consecutive first-team all-conference selection, racking up 32 hits during the A-R-C schedule while hitting .323. The senior from Dubuque hit a pair of homers and had four doubles during the conference season and added 17 walks, 14 RBI and nine steals.
O'Donnell, Eckardt and Johnson also cap their careers with numerous all-conference selections, with O'Donnell and Eckardt earning their third, while Johnson picks up his second. A native of North Liberty, O'Donnell was Coe's go-to second starter, going 3-2 in seven starts and eight appearances. He posted a 2.85 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 47.1 innings while holding the opposition to a .227 batting average. Eckardt, a native of St. Louis, was a tablesetter in Coe's leadoff spot. He had 30 hits with a .326 batting average, adding seven doubles and 15 RBI while playing the entire season with a torn ACL and other nagging injuries. Johnson, out of Indianola, also turned in a solid offensive campaign en route to his second all-league honor. The Kohawk first baseman hit .330 with 33 hits, five doubles and 13 RBI while posting a .409 on-base percentage.
Allison, a native of Pleasant Hill, picked up his third career all-conference selection to cap off his career. The fifth-year senior hit .304 with 31 hits including four doubles and 11 RBI. Coe's third basemen drew nine walks and scored 23 runs, tied for the most on the team. Wille made it back-to-back all-conference honors to begin his career, finishing the A-R-C season with 28 hits, 10 doubles and 10 RBI. The Dubuque native had a .410 on-base percentage, drawing 13 walks while getting hit a team-high nine times.
