CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team needed late dramatics but claimed a 2-1 victory against Cornell College Wednesday evening in a Bremner Cup matchup. The Kohawks fell behind early in the match as the Rams took a 1-0 less than five minutes in. Coe refused to roll over, continuing to search for an equalizing goal despite coming up empty for over 75 minutes of action. The Kohawks finally cashed in on the pressure in the 79th minute as

Brandon Kostelny in the box for a game-leveling header. The drama culminated in the 88th minute with
Marek Jesienouski scoring the winner after a driving run from
Talon Sargent. Coe saw out the final tense minutes, defending a corner before retaining possession until the final whistle.

COE 2 - CORNELL 1
- Cornell for the perfect start, scoring from a set piece in the fifth minute as a floated ball landed beyond the entire defense before bouncing into the back of the net. The Rams sat on the lead for much of the period, allowing Coe to retain possession but the Kohawks were unable to create any true chances. The Kohawks put the pressure on early in the second 45, registering a pair of shots in the first eight minutes. The game grew tense and fractured during the second half, with neither team creating many chances before the final 15 minutes. Coe finally broke through in the 79th minute as Kearney floated a ball to the back post for Kostelny's header which he powered past the keeper. The Kohawks remained on the front foot, throwing bodies forward for the final 10-plus minutes. Sargent started the game-winning move, chasing down a through ball before leveling a cross in the box. Jesienouski finished huge attack, following up a rebound before firing in the back of the net.
